Material Properties
Every Wallmonkeys decal and mural is printed on our premium semi-gloss vinyl. Here's what that means for your walls.
What are Wallmonkeys decals made of?
- Semi-gloss finish
- White, opaque material (not translucent)
- Self-adhesive backing
- Removable without damaging walls
Our vinyl cuts intricate details with precision and sticks to nearly any smooth surface, including walls, glass, floors and windows. For long-term use, keep your decal indoors.
Will Wallmonkeys damage my walls?
No. You don't need tape, nails or glue. Wallmonkeys also work on mirrors, glass, doors and just about any flat surface.
How long will my decal stay up?
It depends on the surface texture and humidity. In an average room, a decal lasts for years (typically 3–5). Cleaning the wall before you install is the best way to make it last.
Can I use my decal in a bathroom or other humid room?
Yes. Our vinyl adhesive holds up to moisture in bathrooms and similar rooms. Make sure the wall is completely dry and dust-free before you install.
Can I use my decal outside?
Wallmonkeys are designed for indoor use. You can install them outside, but weather will shorten their life. We recommend testing a material sample first.
What if I have textured walls?
Wallmonkeys stick best to smooth surfaces. Vinyl takes the shape of the wall like paint, so texture underneath will show through. How well a decal holds depends on the texture and the size of the decal.
- Smooth drywall: Decals stick great.
- Light texture: Smaller sizes may stick well. Test with a sample first.
- Heavy texture / orange peel: Test with a sample. Secure the corners with removable adhesive strips. Larger decals will have a harder time adhering.
- Brick or cement: Not recommended.
What is transfer tape?
Transfer tape is a clear installation layer on top of contour-cut decals. It holds every piece in place while you apply the decal. Once the decal is on the wall, peel the tape away to reveal your design with no background.
What is vinyl lettering?
Vinyl lettering is letters, numbers or shapes cut individually from our semi-gloss vinyl, in the colors you choose. It comes with transfer tape so everything stays aligned during application. It's for one-time application and can't be repositioned, but it removes cleanly. Indoors it lasts for years. Outdoors, expect roughly 2 years.
Can I put a decal on a window?
Yes, on any smooth glass. The adhesive is only on the back, so decals can't be applied inside a window to face outside. The back of the decal is white, not translucent.
Can I remove and reuse my decal?
- Removal is easy and residue-free. Just peel slowly from one corner.
- Most decals can be reused if handled with care. Save the original backing paper for storage and avoid touching the adhesive.
- Smaller decals are easier to reapply. We don't recommend reusing decals 48" and larger.
- Transfer tape decals and vinyl lettering are designed for one-time application.
Can I order a material sample?
Absolutely. Order a material sample to test your surface before you install. Dust, moisture and texture can all affect how well vinyl sticks.
